“Engage, learn & transform – shaping change with strategic foresight!” – Under this motto, we gathered in Berlin on January 29, 2025, to look into the future – and actively help shape it – together with the Advanced Foresight Group (AFG). For us at Schaltzeit GmbH, as a proud founding member of the AFG, this day was something very special.
Planned in record time, powered by electrifying energy
Hard to believe we pulled the event together in just two weeks. But this very challenge showed the power of our combined network intelligence: everyone contributed their know-how, passion, and contacts. We were overwhelmed to welcome so many guests from all over Germany – from Frankfurt am Main to Freinsheim. From the very first minute, there was excitement and curiosity in the air: Who would contribute which ideas, and which perspectives would open up?
Input, exchange, and thinking outside the box
The short keynotes and workshops reminded us once again how broad the topic of strategic foresight is. From AI-supported risk analyses and trend radars to participatory innovation processes – all of this was part of our program. It was never just about theoretical knowledge, but always about the question: “How do we put this into practice?”
In open rounds, we discussed how to break down silo thinking so that organizations no longer have to tackle challenges on their own. The goal: moving from reacting to acting. Especially in times of exponential technological development and growing geopolitical uncertainty, we don’t want to wait until things are on fire.
From big visions to the next concrete step
What good is the best strategy if nobody understands or lives it? That’s exactly why strategic communication is so important. Because only when we bring others along with our ideas do they become part of our change.
The workshop “We’re Climbing a Mountain” was particularly memorable: the title said it all, as participants created real images of the future – sometimes on distant planets, sometimes in the depths of our oceans. Anything was allowed. This free thinking showed once again that we are all more creative than we often think. Sometimes a different perspective is all it takes to discover completely new solutions.
Thinking further together – and taking action
The evening ended with many new contacts and inspiring conversations. At the same time, it became clear: foresight must not disappear into a drawer. What we develop together should actually be put into practice in organizations and companies.
That’s why we’re planning a transdisciplinary follow-up event later in 2025. We want to take a closer look at how we can develop – and, above all, implement – sustainable strategies. Because if you only ever wait for tomorrow, the day after tomorrow will overtake you at some point.
