Post web: The next phase of the internet

The internet has changed our lives massively over the past few decades. We use it to find information, shop, communicate, and entertain ourselves. But what does the future of the internet look like? One idea currently getting attention is called the “Post Web.” But what does that actually mean? And why could it completely change the way we use the internet?

From attention to intention

Today’s internet is based on the so-called “attention economy.” Platforms earn money when we spend as much time with them as possible. This attention is monetized through advertising. The result? An internet full of distractions and endless clicks that often doesn’t offer what we really need.

The Post Web turns this system on its head. It is based on the “intention economy,” which puts our intentions rather than our attention at the center. Artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous systems are meant to understand what we really want and complete tasks independently – efficiently, precisely, and tailored to each of us.

The Post Web vision is described in detail in the work of Outlier Ventures, which sees the concept as the next step after Web3.

What makes the Post Web different?

The Post Web is based on four ideas that completely rethink the internet:

  1. Intentions instead of clicks: AI agents take over tasks and implement our wishes directly. We have to do less ourselves.
  2. Flexible and reliable: AI and new technologies work together so that results are both precise and adaptable.
  3. Secure and transparent: Every action can be verified to ensure trust and privacy.
  4. Personalized: Everything is adapted to our situation and preferences in real time.
What could this look like in practice?
Imagine you’re planning a trip. Instead of laboriously searching for flights, hotels, and activities, you tell an AI agent what you want: “I’d like a relaxing vacation near the beach with good food.” The agent automatically searches for suitable offers, books everything, and adjusts it as needed. You get the best result without having to comb through dozens of websites yourself.
Why do we need the Post Web?
Our current internet has many weaknesses. Large platforms control what we see, collect huge amounts of data about us, and make money by selling our attention. At the same time, many services are complicated and not easy for everyone to use.
The Post Web aims to change that. By combining artificial intelligence with secure technologies such as blockchain, the internet is meant to become more transparent, simpler, and fairer. It’s about putting people back at the center and designing technology to meet our needs.
Challenges and opportunities
Of course, there are also open questions: How do we protect our data? How do we ensure that AI agents always act in our interest? And what role do humans play when machines take over more and more tasks?
Despite these challenges, the Post Web offers enormous opportunities. It could create an internet that is more efficient, more sustainable, and, above all, more helpful. Instead of wasting our time, we could focus on the things that really matter to us – while AI takes over the boring and time-consuming tasks.
A look into the future
The Post Web is more than just a technical innovation. It is a vision of an internet shaped not by distraction and commerce but by what we really want. It invites us to think about the possibilities of technology and how we want to shape it.
The question is: Are we ready to help shape the internet of the future? What are our wishes and intentions for a new, better web? The Post Web gives us the chance to shape this future together. What do you think?
