Clarity, focus, and change

Why we'd rather build the future than claim it

At the end of the year, we at Schaltzeit took on a little team challenge: 264 Lego bricks, 15 minutes, one model.
Did we make it? No. And yet it was a good experiment. Preset kits with a clear target picture. Simply an experiment. A bit of fun as a team. What happens when thoughts take shape? When hands are faster than words? When meaning isn't explained but built? It quickly became clear: Stories emerge. Perspectives. And new questions.

When thinking becomes visible

We see it again and again in our workshops: as soon as abstract topics take on a physical form, the conversation changes. Models create distance – and closeness at the same time. They make uncertainty negotiable. And they give expression to things for which there is no language (yet). Not because the model shows “the truth.” But because people talk about the model, interpret it, and reflect on it.

Lego is play. Lego® Serious Play® is a method.

Lego stands for creativity, openness, curiosity. Lego® Serious Play® (LSP) goes one step further. LSP is a facilitated, structured method that supports thinking, reflection, and decision-making processes. It's not about building something pretty – it's about meaning, perspectives, and shared understanding.

🧠 Thinking with your hands
💬 Dialogue instead of debate
🧱 Models as a shared language in the room

That's exactly why we use Lego® Serious Play® in our Workshops on futures and change processes, strategy & vision, and team and leadership questions.

Why we sent Lego anyway

The kits in our holiday card are real Lego® Serious Play® kits. And that's intentional, too. We didn't want to include instructions. Or explain a method. Instead, we wanted to extend an invitation. An invitation to make change tangible. Not perfect. Not final. Maybe just 1%. Build a model. Give it a name. Look at it month after month: What has changed? What has been added? What can go?

The future doesn't begin with answers – it begins with mindset

We see it time and again: the future doesn't come from the one right idea, but from spaces where people are allowed to think, doubt, and experiment. Not AI-powered. But HI-powered (Human/Hand-Intelligence-powered 😉). Reflection, dialogue, uncertainty, wild images of the future – all of it fits into a small model on the table.

And that's exactly where our workshops come in

We use playful yet well-founded methods like Lego® Serious Play® to open up exactly these spaces for thinking and conversation:
  • when teams face complex decisions
  • when strategy remains abstract
  • when change is thought through but not felt
  • when different perspectives need to become visible

Not to deliver ready-made solutions. But to enable shared understanding, orientation, and new room for action.

Curious?

If you notice that you want to talk about the future, strategy, or collaboration – but need formats other than slides and panel discussions: 👉 Let's talk about how Workshops using playful methods can open up new perspectives.

And until then: Feel free to share your models, thoughts, and images of the future – in the comments on LinkedIn or Instagram and tag us (@schaltzeit).

The future can't be predicted. But it can be built together!
