{"id":6531,"date":"2018-05-04T18:10:32","date_gmt":"2018-05-04T16:10:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/schaltzeit.com\/?p=6531"},"modified":"2026-02-16T14:01:25","modified_gmt":"2026-02-16T13:01:25","slug":"die-ila-2018-ein-rueckblick","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/schaltzeit.com\/en\/ila-2018-a-review\/","title":{"rendered":"ILA 2018 &#8211; a look back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.advanced-foresight.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Advanced Foresight Group<\/a>, represented by Dr. Bernhard Albert (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.foresight-solutions.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Foresight Solutions<\/a>) and Andr\u00e9 Winzer (Schaltzeit), was invited to spend 3 days at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ila-berlin.de\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ILA<\/a> hosting LEGO\u00ae SERIOUS PLAY\u00ae \u201ctaster workshops\u201d at the booth of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.awb-aviation.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AWB Aviation GmbH<\/a> \u2013 our aim was to explain the basic ideas behind SERIOUS PLAY to participants and to make clear that this methodology helps support strategy processes in companies and business networks.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Play is not wasted time. It activates the creative hemisphere of the brain. What functions does it have, and which functions will we no longer need in 2040?<\/p>\n<p><strong>The second challenge<\/strong> looked at the trend field of urban air mobility. Which elements will be necessary or desirable in this trend landscape? New aircraft, new services, other parts of the air mobility ecosystem? More on this in our ILA follow-up report, available on request.<\/p>\n<p>What impressed us most was the diversity of participants\u2019 ideas. In our follow-up, we will explain the individual models on the Advanced Foresight Group blog.<\/p>\n<p>As futurists, we are of course particularly interested in new impulses. At the award ceremony for the I<a href=\"http:\/\/www.luftfahrtistinnovation.de\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">nnovationspreis der Deutschen Luftfahrt (German Aviation Innovation Award), <\/a>ILA itself presented many new ideas. At first glance, aviation is a very long-lived business. Because of regulation, innovation intervals are long, and new airframes are rarely developed. Nevertheless, new and partly cross-cutting topics such as digitalization, urban air mobility, customer journey, emission reduction, electric flight, drones, autonomous airspace control, etc. have become an integral part of ILA. You can find the winners here<\/p>\n<p><strong>The finalists of IDL 2018 were:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Customer Journey category:<\/strong> edm aerotec GmbH, m.Doc GmbH, seatNOW<\/li>\n<li><strong>Emission Reduction category:<\/strong> Airbus Operations GmbH, CCP Technology GmbH, German Aerospace Center (DLR)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cross Innovation category:<\/strong> Daimler AG, Rolls-Royce Deutschland Ltd &amp; Co KG,\u00a0Premium AEROTEC GmbH<\/li>\n<li><strong>Industry 4.0 category:<\/strong> Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability (LBF)\/ MT Aerospace Holding GmbH, NeuronSW Ltd,<br \/>\nPremium AEROTEC GmbH<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>We\u2019re happy to share our personal feedback on the winners on request.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What impressed me personally:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>That appointments are made mainly through business matchmaking \u2013 empathy, not the logical level of cooperation, is what decides. Preparation time for trade shows is being drastically shortened. Instead: meeting marathons in 30-minute slots. While the trade show talks about predictive maintenance, this aircraft flies around the clock with 22 mechanics on board. Each mechanic is a specialist for one subsystem and always ready for action. It\u2019s easier to design new satellites than a new generation of AWACS. The current one will probably keep flying with this technical equipment until 2035. Since satellites are much cheaper to maintain and in some cases deliver higher data resolutions, the AWACS are gradually being decommissioned until a new generation is developed.<\/li>\n<li>The ILA music playlist, stuck in the \u201970s, with \u201cEye of the Tiger\u201d or AC\/DC\u2019s \u201cThunder\u201d \u2013 which still got the crowd going.<\/li>\n<li>The gyroplane from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.auto-gyro.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Autogyro<\/a>, a German company founded only in 1999 that is considered the world market leader. I simply didn\u2019t know this concept at all and was impressed that it was developed as early as 1932 by <a title=\"Juan de la Cierva\" href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Juan_de_la_Cierva\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Juan de la Cierva<\/a>\u00a0. In a gyroplane, the rotor is not actively driven but kept spinning by the airflow \u2013 and that is impressive. On display was the Cavalon, which also won a Red Dot Design Award. A gyroplane can hover and fly on its own, is inexpensive to maintain, and can easily cope with stalls. Unfortunately, I only visited Hall 3 on the last day, and many highlights were still hidden there \u2013 whether the police\u2019s \u201ccrime scene\u201d drone, which quickly takes a laser scan from the air and surveys accident sites, or new electric drives. Of course, the historians were also well represented.
